How To Fix Beats Headphones That Won’t Turn Off?
Here are some quick troubleshooting tips:
- Reset Them.
- Unpair and then turn them off.
- Upgrade their firmware version.
- Force shutdown.
- Let the battery drain.
- Contact Their Support
1. Do a Hard Reset
If the Beats headphones aren’t turning off because of a software bug, a hard reset will fix it. A hard reset returns the headphones to their default mode and removes any settings you may have changed. It’s the go-to fix for software problems.
The resetting process is different for each model (some have a similar one). It usually includes pressing and holding two specific buttons until the LED lights start to blink.
Beats Solo Pro:
- Press and hold the Mode and Volume Down buttons for 10-20 seconds.
- Release the buttons once the LED light flashes red.
Studio3 Wireless, Solo3 Wireless:
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for 10 seconds.
- Once the LED lights flash, release the buttons.
Studio, Studio Wireless, Solo2 Wireless:
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
- Release the button.
- The LED lights will blink a white color, then one LED light will blink red. This happens three times.
- After the LED lights turn off, the headphones are reset.
Solo Wireless:
- Turn off the headphones.
- Press and hold the multifunction and volume down (-) buttons for 8-10 seconds.
- Release the buttons and the red and blue LED lights start to flash 3 times.
2. Un-pair Them
Sometimes, the headphones won’t turn off if they are paired with another device and the music is playing. Close the music application and un-pair both devices.
- iPhone: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn it off.
- Android: Go to Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth > Toggle the switch off.
- Windows: Search “Bluetooth” in the search bar (bottom left). Click Bluetooth and other devices settings, and turn Bluetooth off.
If for some reason you can’t un-pair them, you can always move out the headphones from the Bluetooth range (10 meters / 30 feet). Once the devices aren’t in range, they will automatically disconnect. It’s also recommended to close the Beats application from your phone if it’s opened.
3. Force Shutdown
There’s a trick you can use to force shut down the headphones. To do this:
- Connect the headphones to a charger.
- Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
- Remove the charger while keeping the power button pressed.
- Release the button.
- Turn on the headphones and pair them with a device.
- Disconnect from the device and shut the off normally.
4. Upgrade the Firmware Version
Since the headphones are turned on, you can connect them to your phone and upgrade their firmware version. It’s recommended to keep up to date with the firmware version releases as each version fixes different bugs.
To update them, you need a phone with an internet connection.
- Download the official application of Beats on your iOS or Android phone.
- Pair the headphones with your phone.
- Open the application and add your headphones to it.
- If you don’t have the latest update, a pop-up will show on top of the screen.
- You can press “Firmware” to see if there’s an update available.
- Follow the steps on the application to update it.
Once you update them, try to turn them off.
5. Drain the Battery
If nothing works, drain the battery. Depending on how many charging cycles the battery has completed and how much charging is left on the battery, it should take between 1-2 days for the battery to fully drain.
Disconnect the headphones from your phone and leave them turned on. Chances are that the problem will fix itself just after a few hours of leaving the headphones turned on.
Once the battery drains, fully charge it before turning the headphones on. If the issue consists, then there’s a hardware problem that you should fix.
