How To Connect JBL Speakers to iPhone or Android Phone?

JBL Speakers are known for their sound quality, long battery life, and durability. But, how to connect them to iPhone or Android?

To connect a JBL Speaker to iPhone or Android, activate the pairing mode of your speaker, turn on the Bluetooth in your phone, keep both devices within the Bluetooth range, and press the “JBL Speaker” name in the Bluetooth list of your phone.

The pairing mode has expired, the devices are out of range, or there’s a software bug if your phone and JBL Speaker can’t pair.

How To Pair a JBL Speaker With an iPhone?

To pair a JBL Speaker with an iPhone, use a Bluetooth connection or an Aux cable (for older iPhone models). The steps to do this are listed below.

1. Activate Pairing Mode

Power up the JBL Speaker by pressing the power button once. The power button will have a white or blue light (depending on the model) once powered up. Most JBL Speakers will enter pairing mode automatically once turned on.

Press the Bluetooth button once, if the speaker doesn’t enter pairing mode automatically. The Bluetooth button or power button (depending on the model) will have a flashing blue light when the speaker is in pairing mode.

If the Bluetooth button has a steady blue light, the speaker is already paired with a nearby known Bluetooth device. If that’s not the device you want it to pair with, turn off the other device, move the speaker out of the Bluetooth range of that device, or reset the speaker.

2. Activate Bluetooth in Your iPhone

To activate Bluetooth on your iPhone, go to “Settings” > “Bluetooth” and toggle on the switch. The Bluetooth will start to automatically scan for nearby devices once turned on. Keep the JBL Speaker within the Bluetooth range (10 meters or 30 feet) of your iPhone, so it can find it.

3. Connect The JBL Speaker to Your iPhone

Under “Other Devices” (in the Bluetooth settings of your iPhone), you will see the “JBL Speaker” name. Press the name, wait 5 seconds, and the devices will pair.

Move the speaker within the Bluetooth range of your iPhone (10 meters or 30 feet), ensure the speaker isn’t already paired with another device, and ensure the speaker is in paired mode if your iPhone can’t find and list the speaker in the Bluetooth list.

After the devices pair, play music on your iPhone and check if the sound is coming through the speaker. If the sound comes through the speaker, you have successfully paired a JBL Speaker with iPhone. If the sound doesn’t come through the speaker, un-pair the devices and pair them again.

How To Connect a JBL Speaker With an Android Phone?

To connect a JBL Speaker with an Android phone, do the following.

1. Activate Pairing Mode

Press the power button once to power up the speaker. Most JBL Speakers will enter pairing mode automatically once they turn on. Press the Bluetooth button once, if the speaker doesn’t enter pairing mode.

The Bluetooth button will have a flashing blue light when in pairing mode, and a steady blue light when paired with a device.

2. Activate Bluetooth on your Android Phone

To activate Bluetooth on your Android phone, do the following things.

1. Press “Apps” in your menu bar.
2. Press “Settings“.
3. Go to “Connections“.
4. Find and Press “Bluetooth“.
5. Toggle the Bluetooth Switch ON.

The Bluetooth will start to immediately scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. Place the JBL Speaker within the Bluetooth range of your Android phone so it can scan, find, and list it in the Bluetooth list. Under “Available Devices” (in your Android phone), find the “JBL Speaker” (the name may vary based on the model), press it, and connect.

A “Pairing” text will show next to the “JBL Speaker” name while the devices are pairing. Once both devices pair, a “Connected” text will appear next to the speaker’s name. The JBL Speaker will also release a short sound to indicate that it’s connected to a device.

Play music on your Android phone to test if the connection is successful. The connection is successful if the sound comes through the speaker and not the Android phone. If the sound comes through the phone, go to the Audio Output settings and choose “Bluetooth” as the Audio Output Source.

Why Won’t JBL Speaker Connect to a Phone?

JBL Speaker won’t connect to a phone, for the following reasons.

1. The Pairing Mode Expired. The duration for which a JBL speaker stays in pairing mode varies based on the model, but it’s usually between 1-5 minutes. The speaker will exit pairing mode to save battery power if it isn’t paired with a device during that time (1-5 minutes). The Bluetooth button will have a flashing blue light when the JBL Speaker is in pairing mode. If the speaker has exited pairing mode, press the Bluetooth button once to activate it.
2. The Devices Are Out of the Range. The JBL Speaker and your phone must be within the Bluetooth range (10 meters or 30 feet) to pair. A phone won’t find, list, or pair with a speaker if it isn’t placed within the Bluetooth range. While the Bluetooth range is 10 meters or 30 feet, it will decrease if there are physical objects (walls, furniture) between both devices.
3. Software Bug.  Sometimes turning Bluetooth ON/OFF will fix the issue. Turn the Bluetooth OFF on your phone and exit the pairing mode from your speaker (Press The Bluetooth Icon). Then, put the speaker into pairing mode again, and turn ON the Bluetooth in your phone.
4. JBL Speaker Bluetooth Bug. The JBL Speaker won’t show in the Bluetooth list if it has a software bug. To fix a software bug, reset the speaker. A hard reset will restore the original factory settings, clear the internal memory, and fix software bugs or glitches. Each JBL Speaker has a different process of resetting, check the user manual to know how to reset it.
5. JBL Speaker Doesn’t Have Enough Battery. If the JBL Speaker doesn’t have enough battery, the device won’t work properly. To know how much charge your JBL Speaker has, check the LED light under the speaker. Each light indicated 20% of charge. If you see a red light flashing it means your speaker is on low battery and requires charging.

Can You Connect Multiple JBL Speakers to the Same Phone?

You can connect multiple JBL speakers to the same phone using the “JBL Connect,+” and “PartyBoost” features. However, the JBL Speakers have to connect with your phone via Bluetooth and not aux for this to work. You won’t be able to connect multiple JBL speakers at the same time while using an aux cable.

How To Activate JBL Speaker Pairing Mode?

To activate JBL Speaker pairing mode, press the Bluetooth button once. However, some models will enter pairing mode automatically once turned on. The Bluetooth or power button (depending on the model) will have a flashing blue light once the speaker is in pairing mode.

How To Disconnect JBL Speaker From Your Phone?

To disconnect JBL Speaker from your phone, press the Bluetooth button once to exit pairing mode. You can also turn off the Bluetooth in your phone, or shut down the speaker.
