Which JBL Speakers Can You Connect Together?
You can connect JBL Speakers that share the same communications protocols. This means JBL Connect speakers can only connect with JBL Connect speakers, the same applies to JBL Connect + and JBL PartyBoost speakers.
The model of the speaker doesn’t matter, only the communication protocol does. JBL Charge 4 can connect with JBL Xtreme 2 (since both support JBL Connect+), but it can’t connect with JBL Charge 5 (PartyBoost) since they have different communication protocols.
JBL Connect, Connect+, and PartyBoost are wireless technologies introduced by JBL that enable users to connect multiple speakers together. These wireless technologies allow different speakers to synchronize the same audio.
JBL Connect supports a maximum connection of two (2) speakers at the same time (stereo mode). JBL Connect + and PartyBoost each support a connection of 100 speakers at the same time.
JBL Connect
JBL Connect is a communication protocol that allows a maximum of two (2) JBL speakers to connect together and play the same audio in stereo mode. The JBL Connect speakers can pair (connect) only with speakers that share the same communication protocol (Connect).
The following speakers have the JBL Connect and can be connected to each other:
- JBL Flip 3.
- JBL Charge 3.
- JBL Pulse 2.
- JBL Clip 2.
JBL Connect+ (Plus)
JBL Connect+ (Plus) is a communication protocol that allows a maximum of 100 JBL Speakers to connect together and play the same audio in stereo or party mode. The JBL Connect+ speakers can pair only with speakers that share the same communication protocol (Connect+).
The stereo mode is activated only if two (2) speakers are connected together, once the third speaker is connected to music mode switches to party mode.

JBL PartyBoost
JBL PartyBoost is the latest communication protocol and allows a maximum of 100 JBL Speakers to connect together in stereo and party mode. Compared to Connect+ (Plus), PartyBoost has a better connectivity range, and compatibility, and is easier to use.
The following speakers have the JBL PartyBoost and can be connected to each other.
- JBL Flip 5
- JBL Charge 5
- JBL Clip 4
- JBL Pulse 4
- JBL Boombox 2
- JBL Flip 6
How To Connect Multiple JBL Speakers Together Using Connect+?
To connect multiple JBL Speakers together using Connect+, do the following.
1. Activate Pairing Mode
Pairing mode refers to a specific mode that allows speakers to discover (or be discovered) and establish a connection with another device. To activate the pairing mode in JBL speakers, press the Bluetooth button once. Some JBL speakers will enter pairing mode automatically once powered up.
The Bluetooth (or power) button will have a flashing (blinking) blue light and the speaker will release a short sound, when in pairing mode.
Note: The Bluetooth (or power) button will have a steady white (or blue) light if the speaker is already connected to a device.
2. Connect one JBL Speaker with an Audio Source
The Audio Source refers to an electric device (Smartphone, PC, TV, Laptop, etc.) that can connect wirelessly to Bluetooth speakers and play audio. Only one of the JBL speakers must be connected to the audio source.
Activate Bluetooth in the Audio Source device, keep the speaker within the Bluetooth range (10 meters or 30 feet), and pair both devices. The speaker will release a short sound and the Bluetooth button will have a steady white (or blue) light when paired with a device.
To test the connection, play music on the audio source and check if the sound is coming through the speaker. If it is, the connection is successful.
3. Press the “Connect”, “Connect+” or “PartyBoost” Button
Press the “Connect”, “Connect+”, or “PartyBoost” button once on the other speaker to pair with the main speaker (the one paired with the audio source). Within a few seconds, the sound will play on all the connected speakers.
The “Connect”, “Connect+”, or “PartyBoost” button is located next to all the other buttons.
You can enable the PartyBoost feature with the JBL Portable application, too. To do so, open the application and list only one (1) of the speakers inside the application, press the “PartyBoost” button on the bottom of the application, toggle the switch on, and press the “PartyBoost” button on the other speakers.
Note: The connected speakers must be within the Bluetooth range (10 meters or 30 feet) to connect with each other.

How Far Can You Keep JBL Speakers Away From Each Other When Connected?
JBL PartyBoost speakers have a wireless distance range of 60 feet (18.2 m), and JBL Connect+ speakers have a wireless distance range of 30 feet (9,1 m). The wireless distance range will decrease if there’s a physical object between speakers.
How Do You Disconnect One JBL Speaker From Many Connected Together?
Press the “PartyBoost” or “Connect+” button once to disconnect that JBL speakers from the others. You can also turn off the speaker you want to disconnect.
Does JBL PartyBoost Support Stereo Mode?
Yes, JBL PartyBoost speakers support stereo mode. But, to activate stereo mode you must connect two speakers of the same model.
For example, the stereo mode will activate if two (2) JBL Flip 6 speakers connect together, but it won’t activate if JBL Flip 6 connects with JBL Charge 5.
Can You Upgrade from JBL Connect to JBL Connect + Using a Firmware Update?
You can’t upgrade from JBL Connect to JBL Connect + by using a firmware update unless you have a JBL Charge 3. You can upgrade the communication protocol of JBL Charge 3 from Connect to Connect+ using a firmware update.
Once upgraded, you won’t be able to connect with other JBL Speakers that have the “Connect” feature. However, you will be able to connect to JBL Speakers with the “Connect+” feature.
